A very wise commentary. In my opinion, president Biden is still very competent mentally and the other candidate is highly dangerous. I look it at as a team, a highly skilled team with Biden at the helm for now. Stepping aside right now is the wrong move, again IMHO. Had we elected HRC, we’d be in a very different place. The damage caused by the Trump presidency is massive. We cannot risk that again.
Hi, Barbara. Love your newsletter and this post. I left my career where I had led a department for 11 years and was a member of my organization’s executive team. I had felt for about a year that maybe it was time for someone else to run things—I was running out of damns to give—and at the same time I was aware that the longer I stayed the more I prevented younger others from having their turn at the helm. I was so grateful when I got the opportunity at 47 to run things, and it helped me let go when I considered my leaving as an act of generosity to the people who would take my place. It was hard and is hard to let go of position, power, money, people you loved working with. There are days when I wonder if it was too soon, but then I think—better too soon than too late. I made the decision and did not force the hand of someone else. One wishes our Democratic Party would see what lies before them is an opportunity to usher in the future, and the country would be grateful to Biden for having the strength to leave the stage. Thanks for your thoughtful posts!
I know little about the US and probably have no business making a comment...but I wonder about 'reversing the ticket'. Kamala for President and Joe with his experience and wisdom for Vice. This would allow Joe to step back with dignity and Kamala to make what could be a very substantial contribution.
I actually think this is brilliant

A particularly wise column, Barbara. Thank you.
